Swedish Massage
Facts
Swedish Massage is a combination of massage techniques used by the
ancient civilisations of China, India, Egypt, Rome and Greece and
was developed in the 1800’s by a Swedish Physiologist called Per
Henrik Ling, who introduced the techniques we use today, which
include Effleurage, Petrissage, Tapotement and Vibration.
Massage is composed of various manipulations of the soft body
tissue, such as muscle. The word “massage” is believed to have come
from the Arabic word “Mass” or “Mash” which means to press softly.
