Reducing the risk of falls

Following on from the success of our Falls Awareness Week back in June (see previous blog) I thought it would be a good idea to go back over some key points. Many people are unaware that problems such as corns, calluses and weak ankles significantly increase the risk of falling.  Other contributing factors include muscle weakness and inflexibility.  In addition to basic chiropody care the podiatrists at the Footcare Centre are able to provide expert advice on falls prevention.  This often centres on key exercises and footwear recommendation.  We are able to recommend shoes and insoles that will improve your stability.  We will also consider your current footwear and pay special attention special attention to whether it is the safest design of shoe for you.  Regular footcare reduces your risk of falling.  We will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about reducing your risk of falling.  We look forward to seeing you soon!
